The e-Family Court system was inaugurated at the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court building, marking a significant step toward judicial reform and digitization in the country.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul stated that all national reforms have been achieved through legal processes and emphasized the necessity of reforms being practical and sustained by future governments and stakeholders.
Free legal aid services are now available for family disputes, eliminating the need for physical court visits. Access to services is possible from home. The new system involves three judges instead of one, aiming to make the process more efficient. It offers faster online processing and convenient online scheduling.
Facilitates the country's transition toward a paperless judiciary (Environmental Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan noted this benefit). Provides for digital documents, offers round-the-clock registration seven days a week.
Law Adviser aims to resolve longstanding problems like lengthy procedures, high costs, travel difficulties, paper documentation, delays, and court overcrowding.
Dr. Asif Nazrul stressed that the Law Ministry has implemented 21 reforms but warned they will fade away unless stakeholders, including lawyers, ensure their continuity. He also cautioned against excessive reform attempts that could weaken the state’s structural foundation.
The event was attended by Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, members of the judiciary, and legal professionals.
