Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for the expansion and qualitative strengthening of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) as a key element in a long-term strategy for national transformation, focusing on youth development, discipline, and leadership.
The remarks were made today at the State Guest House Jamuna after a presentation titled "National Transformation Through BNCC" by BNCC Director General Brigadier General Abu Sayed Al Masud. The meeting was also attended by National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, and other key officials.
BNCC Director General Al Masud presented an overview, noting that BNCC is currently enlisted in 561 educational institutions and aims to establish branches in all educational institutions nationwide. The target is to train four million skilled cadets by 2030, with the primary age group for joining being 17 to 18 years. Professor Yunus expressed strong support but stressed that future expansion must focus on quality instruction and a futuristic approach.
He emphasized self-respect, discipline, and, crucially, inclusivity, stating, "BNCC should not focus only on boys; equal participation of girls must be ensured." He also called for a system to provide cadets with certification to aid in employment and the creation of networking opportunities for their better future. Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed stressed the importance of making BNCC more operational and effective, asking, "We have to consider in what sort of situations we can mobilise these volunteers."
National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman commended BNCC's contributions, specifically noting that cadets came forward to help control traffic on the streets after the July Uprising, calling it a "beautiful and commendable initiative." He also prioritized getting good instructors.
The Chief Adviser concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to integrating youth development through BNCC within the national transformation agenda.
