Bangladesh is set to conduct its first-ever national boat census from August 20 to 29. The initiative aims to create a comprehensive unified database of all engine-powered vessels operating across the country's marine coastal and inland waterways.
To prepare for the rollout, the Department of Shipping and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) held a joint stakeholder briefing on Sunday at the Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Operating under the theme "Make the boat census successful, build a prosperous Bangladesh," the census will help authorities improve maritime safety streamline sector regulations, and allocate resources more effectively.
Key local officials attended the preparatory meeting including Lakshmipur Superintendent of Police Md. Abu Tarek, Additional District Magistrate Md. Mejba ul Alam Bhuiyan, and District Statistics Bureau Deputy Director Md. Kamal Hossain. The speakers urged vessel owners, operators, and local stakeholders to cooperate fully with enumerators to ensure an accurate and successful census.
