Consumer price inflation in Bangladesh edged higher in December 2025, reaching 8.49% as both food and non-food costs climbed, according to new data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The year-end figure represents a slight increase from November’s 8.29%. However, current levels remain significantly lower than the double-digit pressure seen a year ago, when headline inflation stood at 10.89% in December 2024.
According to the BBS report released today (January 5), the uptick was driven by the following shifts: Food Inflation: Rose to 7.71%, up from 7.36% in November. Non-Food Inflation: Climbed to 9.13%, up from 9.08% in the previous month.
For context, the economy has seen a notable cooling in food prices compared to December 2024, when food inflation was at a staggering 12.92%. Despite this year-over-year improvement, the month-to-month increase in December suggests persistent pressure on household budgets as the new year begins.
