Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna has warned of legal action after an alleged audio clip of her mother began circulating on social media.

The clip reportedly features Suman Mandanna speaking about events related to Rashmika’s former engagement to actor Rakshit Shetty.

The audio resurfaced weeks after Rashmika’s reported wedding to actor Vijay Deverakonda on February 26. However, reports say the clip actually comes from an interview Suman Mandanna gave to a Kannada news channel around eight years ago.

According to media reports, the audio originated from an interview conducted by film journalist Mahesh Devishetty. In the interview, Suman Mandanna spoke about disagreements between the two families during Rashmika’s engagement to Rakshit Shetty.

Rashmika and Rakshit first met while working on the 2016 Kannada film Kirik Party. They got engaged in 2017 but ended the engagement in 2018, saying the decision was mutual.

In the interview, Suman Mandanna alleged that tensions arose between the families during that time. She claimed that disagreements occurred and that there was pressure on Rashmika regarding her professional choices.

She also alleged that when Rashmika received an offer for the film Geetha Govindam, there was pressure on her to post on social media that she would leave acting after marriage.

Reacting to the circulation of the audio, Rashmika Mandanna issued a detailed statement on the social media platform X.

She said the clip is being shared out of context and described it as part of a long period of misinformation and harassment.

Rashmika stated that the recording appears to be from a private conversation nearly eight years ago and was circulated without the consent of those involved.

She also said that the timing of the clip’s circulation appears intended to create controversy related to her recent personal developments.

The actress said the issue has affected her family and others who have no connection to the matter.

Rashmika urged media organisations, influencers and social media users to remove the clip immediately. She warned that legal notices could be issued to individuals and platforms that continue to circulate the content.

She said the sharing of the audio amounts to a violation of privacy and the spread of misleading and defamatory material.

The actress added that she had remained silent for years despite criticism but decided to respond because the current situation involves her family.

Rashmika also appealed to the public and media outlets to respect privacy and avoid spreading unverified or old material.
