Bogura-4 (Kahaloo–Nandigram) constituency witnessed a sudden surge in violence overnight, leaving several areas tense and prompting a strong response from the administration. Following a series of incidents, law enforcement agencies including the army, BGB, and police deployed multiple teams to bring the situation under control.
In Nandigram’s Parshun village, allegations emerged of an attempted murder of Awami League leader Belal. Following the incident, local residents reportedly beat several accused attackers, including a Union BNP president. As tensions escalated, security forces were deployed to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, BNP leader Salam was arrested by the army in Nandigram with locally made weapons and a foreign pistol, according to multiple sources.
Reports indicate that violence spread across different parts of Bogura-4 throughout the night. In Bhatgram Union, a July movement activist was allegedly stopped on a motorcycle and assaulted. A similar incident was reported in the Thalta Majhgram area. Locals also alleged that three Jamaat activists were confined to a house and physically abused. When party supporters attempted to rescue them, clashes erupted between the two sides, leaving at least 15 people injured.
Residents further alleged that BNP activists went door to door in several villages of Kahaloo and Nandigram, issuing threats and creating widespread fear among the general public.
At the same time, counter-allegations surfaced regarding armed attacks by Jamaat-Shibir activists. BNP claimed that the house of Masud Rana, president of Ward No. 4 Thalta Majhgram Union BNP, was attacked, leaving him and his family members severely injured. Masud Rana is reported to be in critical condition.
In response to the deteriorating situation, the administration confirmed that multiple security teams are actively working in the area to maintain law and order. A senior law enforcement official stated that strict measures have been taken to prevent any further violence.
The official added that ensuring a peaceful environment for voters ahead of the 12th election remains a top priority, so that citizens can cast their votes freely and safely. Risk-prone areas are under heightened surveillance, and patrols have been intensified.
Authorities also confirmed that the causes behind the overnight incidents are being investigated seriously and that those responsible will be identified and brought under legal action. Preventive measures have been strengthened to avoid any recurrence.
Leaders of both BNP and Jamaat stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and have advised their leaders and activists to remain calm and restrained to avoid further unwanted incidents.
Local sources said that while tension remains, the situation is currently under control due to the strong presence of law enforcement agencies.
