In a televised address to the nation, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman acknowledged past "unintentional mistakes" made during the party’s previous tenures and sought public support for the upcoming national election on February 12.
Speaking on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on Monday, Tarique emphasized that the BNP has learned from its shortcomings and is committed to building a "safer and more accountable" Bangladesh.
Tarique outlined a vision for governance rooted in transparency and the rule of law. Accountability: Establishing a government that is directly answerable to the people. Anti-Corruption: Implementing strict measures to eradicate systemic corruption. Democratic Transition: Reclaiming the democratic rights of citizens, which he said were stripped away by the previous "ousted clique."
Honoring the 2024 Mass Uprising The BNP Chairman paid tribute to the sacrifices made during the student-led mass uprising of 2024, noting that over 1,400 people lost their lives and thousands were injured in the movement to restore democracy. He vowed that these sacrifices would not be in vain and pledged to work toward a humane and just state.
Focus on Development and Inclusion Highlighting the needs of nearly 200 million Bangladeshis, Tarique stressed that sustainable development requires the empowerment of women, youth, and workers. Election Manifesto: He highlighted plans for decentralization and economic empowerment as core pillars of the party’s platform. Election Responsibility: He urged voters to support "Sheaf of Paddy" candidates, promising that he would personally ensure elected representatives fulfill their duties.
