


The factory authorities have filed a case against 500 unidentified workers for allegedly staging a strike, rioting and looting various machines and valuables at the factory in Sreepur, Gazipur, demanding arrears of wages.
The case states that a loss of about Tk 98 crore has been incurred. On Sunday (November 2) afternoon, Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abdul Barik confirmed the truth of the case.
Earlier, on Friday (October 31) night, AA Yarn Mills Limited Factory Manager (Administration) Abul Kalam filed the case with Sreepur Police Station as the plaintiff.
In the case statement, plaintiff Abul Kalam mentioned that on October 23, workers protested at the AA Yarn Mills Limited factory in Nagarhawla village of Gazipur union in Sreepur upazila, demanding arrears of wages. At one stage, they staged an illegal strike, rioted and looted various machines and valuables in the factory. During this time, they destroyed the factory's machinery and looted goods worth about 4 million taka, including cash. In these incidents, the workers caused a loss of about 98 crore taka to the factory. After the workers' protest, the authorities declared the factory closed for an indefinite period and put up a notice at the main gate. Monir Hossain, an officer of the human resources (HR) department of the AA Yarn Mills Limited factory, said that even after the workers' demands were met, they continued to disrupt the normal operations of the factory by staging an illegal strike, rioted and looted.
Their activities disrupted production and caused financial losses to the factory. It is not possible to start production activities until new equipment is installed.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abdul Barik said that an official from the factory's administration department has filed a case against 500 unidentified workers as the plaintiff.
