Farmer Hacked to Death Over Land Dispute in Morelganj

A farmer was killed after allegedly being attacked with a sharp weapon by his cousin over a long-standing land dispute in Morelganj, Bagerhat.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, May 18, in Madhurkathi village under Hoglapasha union of the upazila. The deceased, Mintu Sheikh Mithu, 45, was the son of Md. Ohid of the same village.

According to local sources, tensions had existed between relatives for a long time over disputed land ownership. An argument reportedly broke out between Mintu and his cousin on Monday evening. During the altercation, Mintu was critically injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon.

Locals rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The incident created tension in the area, and police later visited the scene.

Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahamudur Rahman said police initially believe the killing was linked to the land dispute. Efforts are ongoing to arrest those involved, and legal proceedings are under way.
