Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Monday announced that special police crackdowns on extortionists, muggers, and drug traffickers are underway across the capital to ensure a secure Eid-ul-Azha.
The DMP chief urged citizens and service providers alike to act responsibly to keep the city safe and functional during the holiday rush.
He made the statements while presiding over a multi-agency coordination meeting on overall safety and traffic management held at the DMP Headquarters conference room.
“The state and the city belong to all of us. Everyone must play a responsible role from their respective positions to keep Dhaka beautiful and functional,” Commissioner Ahmed said.
As part of the holiday security and traffic directives, the Commissioner emphasized that river launches will strictly be barred from carrying passengers beyond capacity. He also urged civic authorities to suspend all road excavation and utility cutting works in the metropolis during the Eid period to minimize traffic congestion.
Calling for cross-agency synergy, the DMP chief pressed all government bodies to work in close coordination so that home-bound citizens can enjoy a hassle-free journey.
The coordination meeting brought together high-level stakeholders, including representatives from intelligence agencies, specialized police units, the Department of Shipping, BIWTA, the Roads and Highways Department, both Dhaka City Corporations, and the Fire Service. Key transport and trade leaders from the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, launch workers' groups, BGMEA, and BKMEA were also in attendance.
At the start of the session, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation detailing the capital's festive security blueprint. This was followed by an open floor discussion where various organizational heads shared their operational feedback.
Senior police officials, including DMP Additional Commissioners SN Md Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), Md Masud Karim (CTTC), Md Shafiqul Islam (DB), and Md Anisur Rahman (Traffic), were present at the meeting alongside joint and deputy commissioners.
