Khulna Zila Parishad Administrator, District Red Crescent Chairman and District BNP Acting General Secretary SM Monirul Hasan Bappi has said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to expand women’s education and overall national development.
He made the remarks on Monday (May 18) while speaking as the chief guest at a reception programme organized by the traditional Fosiar Rahman Women’s College at Paikgachha upazila headquarters.
Bappi said the government has announced plans to establish a national women’s college, a mini stadium and a fire service station in every upazila headquarters. He alleged that a political group is trying to mislead people over development issues and said “development achieved through falsehood cannot last.”
He also said Paikgachha and Koyra would not remain deprived of modern facilities. “I am committed to the people of this area and will continue to work for education, healthcare and overall development,” he added.
Responding to demands raised by the college authorities, Bappi assured that an academic building for the college would be constructed. He also promised support with digital projectors, laptops and prayer facilities. Other development works, including steps toward nationalization, would be implemented gradually, he said.
The programme was presided over by Alhaj Fatema Rahman, wife of the late college founder Alhaj Fosiar Rahman. College Principal Utpal Kumar Bain delivered the welcome speech.
Among the special guests were Khulna District Council Acting Executive Officer Mominur Rahman, District Red Crescent Vice Chairman KM Ashraful Alam Nannu, former Upazila BNP President Advocate GA Sabur, Dr Abdul Majid, Professor Samaresh Roy, Dr Ahsanara Binte Ahmed, Advocate Abu Sayeed and other local political, educational and social leaders.
At the event, SM Monirul Hasan Bappi was presented with a crest and certificate of honour. The college also awarded posthumous honours to former Speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali and philanthropist Alhaj Fosiar Rahman.
Teachers, students, guardians, freedom fighters, media workers and local residents attended the programme.
