A teacher at Dungria School and College in Sunamganj's Shantiganj upazila has issued a public apology after his controversial Facebook comments about madrasa education sparked widespread local outrage.
The teacher, Md. Taibur Rahman, faced severe backlash online and offline. Angered by his post, members of the local Towhidi community filed a formal written complaint with the Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Wednesday.
Community Meeting and Apology
To de-escalate the tension and resolve the issue peacefully, a community reconciliation meeting was organized at the Dungria School and College auditorium on Thursday (May 14) afternoon.
During the session, Rahman publicly expressed his deep regret and unconditionally apologized for his remarks in front of local residents, political leaders, and his colleagues.
The meeting was chaired by former Palli Bidyut Samity President Faridur Rahman Farid. Notable attendees included Acting Principal Madan Mohan Roy, local arbitrator Masuk Mia, and several upazila BNP leaders, including Ilias Mia, Jilani Mia, Abul Leis, Nazrul Islam, and Md. Jahangir Alam.
Speakers at the event urged everyone to exercise responsible behavior online to protect social harmony and respect religious values. They cautioned that misleading or provocative public statements could easily ignite social unrest, advising citizens to remain vigilant and sensitive when using social media platforms.
