Police recovered the half-decomposed bodies of a mother and her two-year-old daughter from the Char Baludhum area in Faridpur Sadar upazila on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Jahanara Begum, 30, and her daughter Samia, from Goalanda upazila in neighbouring Rajbari district.

Locals discovered the remains near a deserted pond after a stray dog unearthed part of a body, prompting them to alert the authorities. Kotwali police excavated the site around 5:00 pm and retrieved the bodies.

Police suspect the mother and child were murdered and buried several days ago in an attempt to hide the crime.

Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Ajmir Hossain confirmed the recovery. The bodies have been sent to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies, and an investigation is actively underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
