Fishermen caught a massive two-kilogram Hilsa in the Meghna River in Bhola on Thursday (May 14). The prized catch was later auctioned for Tk.10,000 at the Bhola Canal Fish Ghat in Shibpur Union.
Shopkeeper Zakir Hossain reported that the fish was caught by a local trawler during a morning expedition. Upon reaching the ghat in the afternoon, local fish trader Md. Heju Bepari secured the fish with the highest bid.
Bepari purchased the large Hilsa as a lucrative investment and expressed hope to resell it in Dhaka for around Tk 12,000.
Bhola District Fisheries Officer Iqbal Hossain attributed the recent surge of large-sized Hilsa in the river to the success of the government's ongoing fish conservation campaigns.
