A 73-year-old hero freedom fighter, Krishnapada Archayya, was seriously injured after being hacked and beaten over a land dispute in Kalia upazila of Narail on Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 8:30 pm in front of a shop in Choto Kalia village while Krishnapada was returning home from the local market.

According to witnesses and relatives, three local youths—Ashikur Rahman Suman, Akibur Rahman Milon, and Mahidul Sheikh—ambushed Krishnapada, attacking him with sharp weapons and blunt objects. He sustained severe injuries to his head, hands, and feet.

Locals rescued him and rushed him to the Kalia Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

"There is an ongoing legal dispute with neighbors regarding the land of the Manasa Temple and my ancestral property," the injured freedom fighter stated. "They attacked me with the intent to kill. I will file a case and seek justice."

Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Idris Ali confirmed the matter on Monday, stating that police have visited the scene. "A drive is underway to arrest the suspects," the OC added.

The accused individuals could not be reached for comment as they have reportedly gone into hiding.
