As part of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, a fire drill held in Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat, showcased remarkable skill and courage from the local fire service team. During the mock drill, firefighters demonstrated a dramatic rescue of a "child" trapped inside a burning building, leaving onlookers both thrilled and moved.
The event took place on Sunday (October 13) in the Kaliganj Upazila premises, jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and Fire Service. The drill featured emergency response techniques, fire extinguishing methods, victim rescue, and basic first aid demonstrations.
The most captivating moment of the event came when firefighters swiftly rescued a “child” (played by an actor) from the "roof of a burning building" filled with simulated smoke. The scene of a firefighter emerging from the smoke-filled structure with the child cradled in his arms drew loud applause from the audience.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jakia Sultana, along with officials from various government departments, students, and local residents, attended the event.
Organizers noted that such simulations are vital for raising awareness and preparedness among the public in the face of disasters. The guests expressed their appreciation for the dedication of fire service personnel.
“In times of disaster or emergency, these brave individuals stand by the people without hesitation—today’s drill was a powerful example of that commitment,” said one of the attendees.
