Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a pistol, ammunition and a kilogram of suspected crystal meth 'ice' valued at BDT.5.01 crore during a night operation in Kurigram’s Nageshwari Upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team from the Ramkhana Border Outpost under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat Battalion 15 conducted an ambush in the Purba Ramkhana Ashkona Nagar area at around 2:40 AM on Friday.
Noticing the security presence, suspects crossing over from the Indian border abandoned their polythene-wrapped package and fled back across the border into Indian territory under cover of darkness.
During a search of the abandoned package, BGB officers recovered a pistol, one round of live ammunition and approximately one kilogram of suspected crystal meth 'ice'.
BGB officials stated that chemical samples of the seized drugs are being dispatched to a laboratory for forensic verification. Legal proceedings are currently underway to identify and apprehend the smugglers involved in the operation.
