A Pabna Upazila administration official, Hasanur Rahman Nayan, has been ordered to vacate his official residence following allegations that he and his wife were involved in the cruel killing of eight newborn puppies in Ishwardi, Pabna.
Sometime on Sunday night (November 30), the puppies, born to a beloved local dog named 'Tom' who lived near the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO)'s residence, were allegedly stuffed into bags and drowned alive in a nearby pond. Their bodies were discovered the following morning, Monday (December 1). The mother dog was reportedly seen crying and running around frantically after finding her puppies missing.
Hasanur Rahman Nayan, who works at the Upazila Krishak Unnayan Foundation, was issued the instruction to leave his official residence by the Upazila administration on Tuesday (December 2) as punishment.
The accused official, Hasanur Rahman Nayan, admitted his wife committed the act, stating, "My wife did this... I am ashamed of the incident of killing the puppies." Ishwardi UNO, Md. Moniruzzaman, described the act as "extremely inhumane and cruel," confirming the order for Rahman to vacate his residence within a day.
A legal notice seeking criminal action against those responsible for the killings was sent on Tuesday by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajeeb Mahmud Alam to the Ishwardi UNO and the Upazila Animal Resources Officer.
The deceased puppies were buried near the UNO's residence on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, the heartbroken mother dog was seen roaming and crying in front of the UNO's office on the second floor, resisting attempts to move her. The Upazila Livestock Department is currently monitoring the dog. The incident has also sparked widespread condemnation from netizens across social media.
