The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that the issue of Bangladesh's 'venue change' for the upcoming T20 World Cup has not been resolved yet. A meeting will be held with the ICC on Tuesday (January 13) afternoon to resolve the issue. A final decision on the venue may be taken in this BCB-ICC meeting.
In a statement, the BCB said that the statement given by the sports advisor on security issues in India is not an official statement from the ICC. It is a review of an inter-meeting between the BCB and the ICC security team.
Meanwhile, the ICC is going to offer Bangladesh to play in two other venues in India, not Sri Lanka. Indian media reports said that with less than a month left for the T20 World Cup, it is not possible to shift Bangladesh's matches to other countries for logistical reasons. As an alternative, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram are being considered for hosting Bangladesh's matches.
Earlier, yesterday (Monday, January 12), Asif Nazrul, the interim government's youth and sports advisor, said that the letter sent to the BCB from the ICC's security department mentioned that the Bangladesh team's security is at risk for three reasons. The three reasons are - the inclusion of Mustafizur Rahman in the team, the movement of Bangladesh fans wearing the team's jersey, and the backdrop of the national election.
While talking to reporters at the BFF building, Asif Nazrul called these reasons 'strange and illogical'.
