Kushtia-3 MP Mufti Amir Hamza has been granted permanent bail in two defamation cases in Sirajganj. He surrendered to the Chauhali and Sadar Amli courts on Sunday (June 14) afternoon.
Following hearings from both sides, Judge Suman Kumar Karmakar approved his bail applications. The decision was confirmed by Hamza’s lawyer, Abu Taleb, and the plaintiff’s counsel, Humayun Kabir.
Lawyer Humayun Kabir filed the first case on April 2, accusing Hamza of making derogatory remarks about BNP Standing Committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku. An arrest warrant was initially issued after Hamza failed to answer a court summons, but he later secured an eight-week anticipatory bail from the High Court on April 27.
District BNP Joint Secretary Shamim Khan filed the second case at the Sirajganj Sadar Amli Court. The case alleges Hamza insulted Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
