42 Candidates Contest Five Gazipur Seats as BNP’s Lone Independent Withdraws

Following appeals and the completion of nomination withdrawals, 42 candidates are now contesting the five parliamentary constituencies in Gazipur for the 13th National Parliament election. Earlier, 53 candidates had filed nominations across the district.

Election officials confirmed that BNP’s only independent candidate in Gazipur, Md Salahuddin Sarkar from Gazipur-2, withdrew his nomination on Tuesday. As a result, there are no BNP-backed independent candidates remaining in the district.

Gazipur-1 Eight candidates are contesting the Gazipur-1 seat: • Md Mujibur Rahman (BNP) • Md Shah Alam Bakshi (Jamaat-e-Islami) • Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiqui (Bangladesh Labor Party) • Taslima Akhter (Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal–Marxist) • Md Imarat Hossain Khan (Independent) • Ruhul Amin (Islami Andolan Bangladesh) • SM Shafiqul Islam (Jatiya Party) • Md Atiqul Islam (Gono Front)

Gazipur-2 Twelve candidates are in the race: • Datta Barua (Independent) • Mahfuzur Rahman Khan (Gono Odhikar Parishad) • Md Atiqul Islam (Gono Front) • Mohammad Shariful Islam (Janata Dal) • M Manjurul Karim Rony (BNP) • Hanif Sarkar (Islami Andolan Bangladesh) • Md Ziaul Kabir (Communist Party of Bangladesh) • Masud Reza (Bangladesh Socialist Party–Marxist) • Taslima Afroz (Insaniat Biplob Bangladesh Sarkar) • Md Mahbub Alam (Jatiya Party) • Ali Naser Khan (National Citizen Party) • Md Abdul Qayyum (Bangladesh Socialist Party)

Gazipur-3 Seven candidates will contest: • SM Rafiqul Islam (BNP) • Golam Sabbir Ali (Independent) • Izadur Rahman Milon (Independent) • Hafez Maulana Mufti Shamim Ahmed (Islami Oikya Jote) • Md Nazim Uddin (Jatiya Party) • Alamgir Hossain (Islami Andolan Bangladesh) • Md Ehsanul Haque (Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis)

Gazipur-4 (Kapasia) Eight candidates are contesting: • Md Shafiullah (Independent) • Md Kazim Uddin (Islami Andolan Bangladesh) • Salah Uddin Ayubi (Jamaat-e-Islami) • Shah Riazul Hannan (BNP) • Monir Hossain (National People’s Party) • Enamul Kabir (Jatiya Party) • Manabendra Deb (Communist Party of Bangladesh) • Md Zakir Hossain (Aam Janata Dal)

Gazipur-5 Seven candidates are in the contest: • AKM Fazlul Haque Milon (BNP) • Dr Md Shafiuddin Sarkar (Jatiya Party) • Md Khairul Hasan (Jamaat-e-Islami) • Md Al Amin Dewan (Islami Front Bangladesh) • Md Azam Khan (Janata Dal) • Md Kajal Bhuiyan (Gono Forum) • Gazi Ataur Rahman (Islami Andolan Bangladesh)

Election officials said symbols will be allotted shortly, after which formal campaigning will begin. The 13th National Parliament election is scheduled to be held on 12 February.
