32 Candidates Forfeit Security Deposits in Gazipur Elections

In the 13th National Parliament election, the deposits of 32 out of 42 candidates in the five parliamentary constituencies of Gazipur have been forfeited.

According to the conditions of the Election Commission, the deposits of all candidates who received less than one-eighth of the casting votes will be canceled, said Gazipur Assistant Returning Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman. As a result, it has been seen that the deposits of all the remaining candidates except the winner of the five constituencies of Gazipur and his closest rivals, 10 candidates, have been canceled. Because the votes received by each of them are less than one-eighth of the casting votes.

Their deposits have been forfeited as they did not receive 12.5 percent of the votes.

A total of 8 candidates contested the election in the Gazipur-1 (Kaliakoir Upazila and part of Gazipur Metropolitan City) constituency. The total number of casting votes in the election (including invalid votes) is 382,244. BNP candidate Md. Mujibur Rahman was elected in this constituency by getting 28,688 votes. His nearest rival Md. Shah Alam Bakshi got 149,853 votes. The deposits of the remaining 6 candidates were forfeited. They are - Atiqul Islam of Gano Front (129 votes), S. M. Shafiqul Islam of Jatiya Party (3325 votes), Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiqui of Bangladesh Labor Party (168 votes), Taslima Akhter of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Marxist Party (232 votes), independent candidate Md. Emarat Hossain Khan (6703) and Maulana GM Ruhul Amin of Bangladesh Islami Andolan (5696 votes).

Twelve candidates contested the election in Gazipur-2 (Sadar and Tongi) constituency. The number of casting votes in this seat is 3 lakh 59 thousand 464. BNP candidate M. Manjurul Karim Rony won by getting 1 lakh 88 thousand 606 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami (NCP) candidate Ali Naser Khan with the Shapla Kali symbol, got 1 lakh 40 thousand 950 votes. The remaining 10 candidates have had their deposits forfeited. They are - Atiqul Islam of Ganofront (220 votes), independent candidate Jeet Barua (444 votes), Masud Reza of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Marxist Party (250 votes), Mahfuzur Rahman Khan of Ganadhikar Parishad (245 votes), Mohammad Shariful Islam of Janata Dal (537 votes), Md. Abdul Qayoum of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal Basder (1155 votes), Md. Ziaul Kabir of Communist Party of Bangladesh (1397 votes), Md. Mahbub Alam (4125 votes), Insaniat Biplob Bangladesh Sarkar Taslima Afroz (417 votes) and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Hanif Sarkar (12,657 votes).

Seven candidates contested the Gazipur-3 (part of Sripur and Sadar Upazilas) constituency. The number of casting votes in this constituency is 303,972. BNP candidate Professor Dr. SM Rafiqul Islam Bachchu won by getting 162,343 votes. The nearest rival, Jamaat Jote (Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish) candidate Mohammad Ehsanul Haque, got 1539 votes. The remaining five candidates had their deposits forfeited. They are Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Alamgir Hossain (6036 votes), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-BSD's Ashiqul Islam Piyal (484 votes), independent candidate Md. Izadur Rahman Chowdhury (21,963 votes), Jatiya Party's Md. Nazim Uddin (1995 votes) and Dr. Maulana Mufti Shamim Ahmed of the Islamic Unity Alliance (2332 votes)

Eight candidates contested the Gazipur-4 (Kapasia) constituency. The number of casting votes was 204,044. Bangladesh Jatayat Islami candidate Salah Uddin was elected with 101,779 votes. His nearest rival, BNP candidate Shah Riazul Hannan, received 90,390 votes. The deposits of six people were confiscated. They are Jatiya Party's Enamul Kabir (2147 votes), National People's Party-NPP's Monir Hossain (135 votes), CPB's Manabendra Deb (1091 votes), Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Kazim Uddin (2348 votes), Aam Janata Dal's Zakir Hossain (278 votes) and independent candidate Md. Shafiullah (1521 votes).Political Books

Seven candidates contested the Gazipur-5 (Kaliganj Upazila and part of Gazipur City) constituency. The number of casting votes in this constituency in the election was 229,929. BNP candidate AKM Fazlul Haque Milon was elected by getting 133,869 votes. His nearest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Md. Khairul Hasan, received 78,123 votes. The deposits of 5 others were forfeited. They are, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Gazi Ataur Rahman (4411 votes), Jatiya Party's Dr. Md. Shafiuddin Sarkar (1497 votes), Janatar Dal's Md. Azam Khan (6592 votes), Islamic Front Bangladesh's Md. Al Amin Dewan (837 votes), and Gono Forum's Md. Kajal Bhuiyan (223 votes).
