In a significant political development, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman, has officially entered the race for the Dhaka-17 constituency.
The nomination papers were filed on Monday, coinciding with the final deadline for candidates to submit their credentials for the upcoming general election.
The submission was carried out on Tarique Rahman's behalf at the office of the Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer, Sharif Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, located in Segunbagicha. Abdus Salam, the BNP’s chief election coordinator and a member of the party chairperson’s Advisory Council, confirmed the filing to the media.
The papers were submitted on the final day of the nomination window and filed at the Returning Officer's office in Segunbagicha. Tarique Rahman is seeking to represent Dhaka-17, a high-profile seat in the capital.
The filing was managed by senior party leadership, specifically Abdus Salam. The move marks a strategic step for the BNP as it prepares for the national polls, positioning its top leadership directly in the electoral contest for the capital's key seats.
