Physician and entrepreneur Tasnim Jara has officially resigned from the National Citizen Party (NCP) to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as an independent candidate for the Dhaka-9 constituency.
Originally named as the NCP’s candidate on December 10, Jara announced her departure via Facebook on Saturday, citing the "practical context" as the reason for leaving the party and any potential alliances.
Her resignation was confirmed by NCP Senior Joint Convenor Samantha Sharmin. Jara emphasized her connection to the constituency, noting she was born and raised in Khilgaon.
Despite losing the structural and financial support of a political party, she reiterated her commitment to establishing a transparent political culture. As an independent, she must collect 4,693 voter signatures in a single day to meet legal requirements for her candidacy.
Jara announced that refunds are being processed for those who contributed financially to her previous campaign under the NCP banner.
Jara, known for her healthcare platform Shohay, is now calling on the residents of Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, and Mugda to support her grassroots campaign through volunteering and signature collection.
