The interim government has called on all citizens of Bangladesh to remain firmly vigilant against all forms of violence perpetrated by isolated extremist groups. At the same time, the interim government has also called for showing due respect to Shaheed Hadi by rejecting and resisting incitement and hatred.
The call was made in a statement by the interim government on Friday afternoon. The statement said, "We strongly and unequivocally condemn all acts of violence, intimidation, arson and destruction of life and property."
It also said, "At this critical time in the country's history, we are moving forward with a historic democratic transformation. We cannot and will not allow this progress to be disrupted in any way by a few who capitalize on chaos and ignore the path to peace."
The upcoming elections and referendum are not just political exercises; they are a serious national commitment. This commitment is inextricably linked to the dream for which Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi sacrificed his life. To honor his sacrifice and memory, restraint, responsibility and a steadfast commitment to rejecting hatred are required.
The statement said, "To the journalists of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo and New Age, we would like to say - we stand with you. We are deeply sorry for the terror and violence you have been subjected to. The nation has witnessed your courage and tolerance even in the face of terror. Attacks on journalists mean attacks on the truth. We assure you of full justice.
'We deeply condemn the incident of beating a Hindu man to death in Mymensingh. There is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh. None of those involved in this brutal crime will be spared.'
Yesterday, after the news of the death of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson and potential parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, Sharif Osman Hadi, the capital Dhaka, erupted in a frenzy. Protests also broke out in different districts of the country. The buildings of the Daily Prothom Alo and the Daily Star were set on fire from these protests.
