BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has raised a serious alarm, alleging that a "certain quarter" is actively plotting to create anarchy and chaos in Bangladesh. This conspiracy is reportedly centered on the upcoming verdict in a mass killing case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow (17 November).
Fakhrul explicitly stated that a group is "conspiring to create anarchy" and attempting to use the Hasina verdict to "plunge Bangladesh into chaos again." Speaking at a discussion marking the death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani at the National Press Club today (16 November), Fakhrul urged the nation to "stand firm" against these attempts and remain united. He highlighted the significance of the verdict against "fascist Hasina for mass killings," noting that it has created "uncertainty and fear" across the country.
Fakhrul stressed the importance of not "wasting the opportunity created by the student–public uprising" and to "keep the path of democratic transition smooth." The BNP leader commented that Bangladeshi politics is becoming increasingly "distorted" by elements previously unimaginable. He also noted that the "aspirations of the people are yet to be fully realised."
While acknowledging the interim government came with broad support, he expressed reservations, stating that its "political direction" is yet to be seen as fully aligning with public expectations. Fakhrul reiterated the BNP's stance that elections are the "only path to restore democracy" and accurately reflect the people's will.
Regarding the upcoming election scheduled for February, Fakhrul accused "Some groups" of deliberately trying to "create instability and raise various demands to delay the election." He concluded by urging all political parties, "Do not delay any further. Support the election process and ensure the election can take place," emphasizing that an elected government is the country's most pressing need.
