Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan on Wednesday clarified that the government has no plans to increase fuel prices, despite global market volatility triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat marking the first month of the current administration, the Minister addressed concerns regarding energy security. He stated that while the geopolitical situation has created challenges for many nations, Bangladesh currently faces no fuel shortage.
"The government is not considering any price hike at this moment," Swapan said. "We are monitoring the global situation closely, and our current reserves are stable."
The Minister noted that fuel prices in Bangladesh remain significantly lower than in several neighboring countries. He urged citizens to remain calm and cautioned against panic buying, which can create artificial pressure on the supply chain.
