State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam Rinku stated on Saturday that while fuel prices have surged globally—doubling in some nations and rising by 50% in others—the Bangladesh government has successfully maintained stable rates.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex, the State Minister credited the government’s management for shielding citizens from the economic impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Shama Obaid emphasized that the government’s "friendship to all" policy, initiated by martyred President Ziaur Rahman, continues to benefit the nation.
Strong diplomatic ties have ensured that expatriates remain safe and that the supply of oil and gas continues via various routes without crisis.
While prices remain stable for now, she hinted at potential long-term adjustments to ensure economic security, promising that any changes would prioritize public safety.
During her visit, the State Minister expressed sharp disappointment regarding the condition of the Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex.
"The condition is pathetic and does not meet any standard," she remarked, noting a severe lack of essential equipment and manpower.
Accompanying her were Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Mollah, Police Superintendent Md. Nazrul Islam, and local BNP leaders including Habibur Rahman Babul Talukder and Saifur Rahman Mukul.
