MPO-Listed Teachers’ House Rent Allowance Increased by 15%

The interim government has decided to increase the house rent allowance for MPO-listed teachers and staff of non-government educational institutions by 15%, effective November 1.

Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul (C.R.) Abrar announced the decision, saying the Finance Ministry has approved the raise 7.5% from November 1 and 15% from July.

He said the move reflects the government’s “responsible response” to teachers’ protests and called for a “return to classrooms” to focus on education.

Earlier, the Finance Ministry issued a circular increasing the allowance by only 5%, which teachers rejected, continuing their demonstrations. The new decision is expected to end the standoff and restore normal academic activities.
