


The government has appointed state-defense lawyers at public expense for the two accused in the Ramisa Akhter rape and murder case.
The Solicitors Sub-Division (GP-PP Branch) of the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued the order on Sunday (May 24). According to the directive, Advocate Musa Kalimullah, a member of the Dhaka District Bar Association, will represent the accused. The case is currently pending before the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal.
Meanwhile, police have formally submitted the charge sheet against the accused. Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Ahiduzzaman Bhuiyan Nipun of Pallabi Police Station presented the charge sheet to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque on Sunday. Following a hearing, the court accepted the charge sheet and transferred the case to the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal for trial.
The primary accused, Sohel Rana, faces charges of rape and murder, while his wife, Swapna Akhter, is charged with aiding and abetting the crime.
