


The tribunal has ordered the surrender of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six absconding accused in the case of crimes against humanity in the killing of 9 youths by staging a militant drama at Jahazbari in Mirpur, the capital.
At the same time, the next hearing has been fixed for March 8.
On Sunday (February 22), a two-member judicial panel led by International Crimes Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order. The other member of the panel is Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim heard for the prosecution at the tribunal today. Prosecutors Saimum Reza Talukder and Abdus Sattar Palawan were present.
There are a total of eight accused in the case. They were ordered to appear before the tribunal today. But since two were arrested, the court ordered the publication of a notice in the newspaper for the surrender of the rest.
The arrested are former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque and former DMP Commissioner Md. Asaduzzaman Mia. The other absconding ones are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, then Additional Commissioner of DMP Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan, then CTTC Chief Monirul Islam, then Joint Commissioner (Crime) of DMP Krishna Pad Roy and then Joint Commissioner (DB) Abdul Baten.
Earlier, on January 29, the tribunal took into account the formal charges filed by the prosecution against the eight accused. At the same time, arrest warrants were issued against them.
It is worth noting that on the night of July 25, 2016, the Counter Terrorism Unit of the police conducted a raid on an alleged militant hideout in a house known as Jahajbari in Kalyanpur in the capital. Nine young men were shot dead in the operation, called 'Operation Storm-26'.
