A 13-member delegation of July Fighters met with the National Consensus Commission today at the National Parliament, demanding legal protection, official identification cards, and immediate resolution of healthcare issues.
The delegation reported that many members have been unable to receive medical treatment at hospitals since last Eid-ul-Azha, despite possessing official health cards. They urged the Commission to ensure the health adviser issues written instructions to all hospitals to guarantee medical care for those injured during the July uprising.
They requested the issuance of official identification cards to provide legal protection and ensure their rights are upheld.
The group addressed the recent clash outside Parliament ahead of the July Charter signing ceremony. They claimed they had gathered peacefully to present legitimate demands but that "outsiders" infiltrated the gathering, leading to clashes and vandalism which tarnished their image.
They claimed to have identified 20 to 25 individuals responsible for the disorder. The delegation expressed regret and apologized for the incident. They sought the Commission's assistance to have the four cases filed in connection with the incident withdrawn.
The Commission, attended by Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and members including Badiul Alam Majumder and Iftekharuzzaman, assured the delegation that all their concerns would be taken seriously and conveyed to the relevant authorities for appropriate action. The delegation included members such as Md Sohag Mahmud, Kamrul Hasan, and Marufa Maya.
