In light of the recent series of devastating fires across Bangladesh, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued strict instructions urging teachers, officials, and staff to remain alert and follow fire safety measures.
The directive, signed by Assistant Director Md. Khalid Hossain, was sent to all government and non-government schools, colleges, and field-level education offices.
It instructs all offices and institutions under the Education Ministry to ensure that lights, fans, computers, and other electrical switches are turned off, and AC plugs are disconnected before leaving rooms or offices each day. Heads of institutions and offices have been asked to verify compliance personally.
This initiative follows a series of major fire incidents including the October 14 chemical warehouse fire in Mirpur that killed 16 people, the October 16 blaze at a towel factory in Chattogram EPZ, and the October 18 fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Cargo Village, which took 27 hours to control.
The DSHE said the move aims to prevent similar disasters and ensure the safety of educational institutions nationwide.
