Four Cases Filed Over Manik Mia Avenue Clashes in Dhaka

Four separate cases have been filed over Friday’s violent clashes between law enforcement agencies and demonstrators under the banner of “July Warriors” on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. All four cases were filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, police sources confirmed.

According to police, all the cases were filed by law enforcement officials—one by a traffic sergeant and the remaining three by officers of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Each case lists unidentified individuals as defendants, with an estimated 800 to 900 people named as suspects in total.

So far, police have arrested Rimon Chandra Barman in connection with the incidents.

Confirming the development, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imamul Haque said, “Four cases have been registered so far. The accused include those involved in terrorist, destructive, and anarchic activities. All suspects are unidentified at this stage.” The cases include charges of unlawful entry into a restricted area, assault on police officers, vandalism of vehicles, and arson at the control room.

The clashes erupted on Friday (October 17) when activists under the “July Warriors” banner gathered on Manik Mia Avenue, demanding that three of their demands be included in the July Charter. Around 1:30 p.m., violence broke out near Gate No. 12 of the National Parliament complex after protesters attempted to force their way inside.

Police responded by firing sound grenades and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, while protesters threw bottles, chairs, and bricks, setting fires on the street. Several police vehicles were vandalized, and a number of people were reportedly injured during the clashes.
