A serial robbery suspect identified as Samrat escaped from a Gazipur court holding cell on Monday afternoon. Police have launched an active manhunt to apprehend the fugitive who is an alleged member of an inter-district robbery syndicate.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 PM. Samrat was brought to the court premises alongside five other suspects for a hearing. According to preliminary reports police officers briefly left him unattended in a holding room. Exploiting his unusually thin wrists the suspect managed to slip out of his restraints and flee the facility in just 40 seconds.
CCTV footage captured the suspect running from the premises. Though officers immediately initiated a pursuit upon realizing he was missing Samrat evaded capture.
Gazipur Metropolitan Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam confirmed the security breach. “The accused escaped the facility in a mere 40 seconds” Islam stated. “Both our local officers and court police were present. We are actively working to recapture him.”
Authorities are urging residents in the Gazipur metropolitan area to remain vigilant while search operations continue.
