Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin today assured the public that the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will not be manipulated, stating there is no reason for political agitation.
“There will be no stage-managed election. Insha’Allah, no orchestrated polls will ever be held in this country again,” the CEC told reporters during a visit to the appeal filing center at the Election Commission Bhaban in Agargaon this morning.
Addressing the ongoing review of candidate nominations, the CEC emphasized that the Commission would serve as a neutral appellate authority. He noted that any person aggrieved by a returning officer’s decision—whether a nomination was accepted or rejected—has the legal right to appeal.
“We believe in justice and we will deliver it,” the CEC said. “The law is equal for all. Once the hearings conclude, the public will see that every decision was made strictly according to the rules.”
The CEC highlighted a significant change in the political atmosphere, noting that nomination submissions were peaceful this year. In contrast to previous cycles marked by bombings and clashes, he described the current "congenial environment" as a positive milestone for the country.
He also pointed to the high volume of appeals as a sign of public confidence. “People are traveling from far-flung areas to file their cases. This proves their active interest and trust in the process,” he added.
Today marks the fourth consecutive day of the appeal process for the national election scheduled for February 12, 2026.
According to EC officials a total appeals to date: 295 (over the first three days). Wednesday’s filings: 131 new appeals. Regional breakdown (Wednesday): Dhaka (31), Cumilla (19), Mymensingh (16), Rajshahi (15), Khulna (11), Chattogram (10), Rangpur (9), Barishal (9), and Faridpur (7).
During the initial scrutiny phase concluded on January 4, returning officers validated 1,842 nomination papers and rejected 723 out of 2,568 total submissions across 300 constituencies.
