The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for new voter registration from June 30 to July 31, allowing more citizens to enroll for the upcoming national elections.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machud announced the one-month extension on Thursday (July 2) at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Machud explained that the deadline was pushed back in response to requests from field officials and practical considerations. "Anyone who registers by July 31 will be eligible to vote in the next national election," he confirmed. To accommodate this change, necessary amendments to the voter list regulations have been made and will be published shortly.
Officials have assured the commission that the extended timeframe will not disrupt election preparations, even if the national polls take place in October. Additionally, the EC has prepared a preliminary list to assess where extra polling stations may be required.
