Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha and a prominent figure of the July Uprising, was laid to rest this afternoon beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the Dhaka University campus.
The burial followed a high-profile namaz-e-janaza at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, attended by thousands, including Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, the Army Chief, and top leaders from across the political spectrum. Hadi, who was shot on December 12 in the capital's Paltan area, succumbed to his injuries in Singapore on Thursday night.
The nation observed a day of state mourning today, with the national flag flying at half-mast. Security remained tight throughout the capital, with BGB and police deployment to manage the massive influx of mourners. Hadi's death has sparked widespread protests, with many mourning the loss of a leader who was set to contest the upcoming election from the Dhaka-8 constituency.
