Hundreds of residents in Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, gathered to demand justice for the murder of slain leader Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha and former independent parliamentary candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
Following Jummah prayers on Friday (June 5), approximately 200 worshippers from various local mosques joined the protest. The march began at the Nalchiti Model Mosque, moved through the city’s main roads, and concluded with a rally at Shaheed Selim Talukder Chattar in the bus stand area.
Key speakers at the rally included Mufti Atiqur Rahman, Imam of Nalchiti Model Mosque; Mufti Abu Saleh, Khatib of the Central Mosque; Chanchal Hossain; Mamun Howlader; and Md. Amir Hossain Howlader, Hadi’s brother-in-law.
The speakers demanded a swift and impartial trial, expressing public frustration over the lack of visible progress in the investigation. They called for a transparent, independent probe into the murder, specifically demanding that the ongoing United Nations-supervised investigation be made public.
Furthermore, protesters urged authorities to investigate allegations of foreign intelligence involvement, referencing recent remarks by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Highlighting the extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India, speakers questioned the delay in repatriating the accused and urged the government to clarify its stance on the legal proceedings.
The event concluded with special prayers seeking peace for the souls of those killed during the July uprising.
