Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced today that Bangladesh is expecting a prompt response from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India regarding the extradition of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and three suspects linked to the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi.
Briefing reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the minister confirmed that all legal procedures required to bring the individuals back to the country have been completed.
Former IGP Benazir Ahmed was arrested in the UAE following an Interpol Red Notice. The Home Minister noted that the Bangladeshi government acted swiftly, submitting all required extradition documentation to the UAE authorities within three days, well ahead of the official 30-day deadline.
Regarding the Hadi murder case, Bangladesh has sent necessary files to Indian authorities to extradite three detained suspects, including prime accused Faisal Karim Masud. While the suspects are currently undergoing trial in India for illegal border infiltration—a factor that could slow down their return—the minister emphasized that provisions within the bilateral extradition treaty allow India to hand over the suspects even while domestic legal proceedings are ongoing.
The government remains optimistic about securing a swift resolution from both nations to ensure justice.
