


Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and President Mohammed Shahabuddin led the nation in paying rich tributes to the martyred intellectuals, marking Martyred Intellectuals Day. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus honored the martyred intellectuals by placing a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur around 7:22 am today.
Following the wreath-laying, the Chief Adviser observed a period of solemn silence to show profound respect for the "illustrious sons of the soil" who were killed during the final days of the Liberation War.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Armed Forces offered a state salute, and the bugle played the Last Post. The article notes that the brilliant intellectuals were massacred at the fag-end of the Liberation War in an attempt to intellectually cripple the newly emerging Bangladesh.
After the ceremony, the Chief Adviser exchanged greetings with several dignitaries and individuals, including the Chief Justice, advisers of the interim government, top civil and military officials, injured valiant freedom fighters, and family members of the martyred intellectuals.
Earlier in the morning, President Mohammed Shahabuddin also paid his homage by placing a wreath at the memorial around 7:04 am.
