A letter has been sent to India again to bring back former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who were sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the July uprising, back to the country, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain said.
He made this statement while speaking to some journalists at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday (November 23) evening.
The Foreign Affairs Advisor said that a letter has been sent to India seeking the return of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. The letter was sent to the Indian Foreign Ministry from the Bangladesh Mission in Delhi on Friday.
The government had previously sent a letter to bring back Sheikh Hasina, who is in India, back to the country. In this regard, the Foreign Affairs Advisor said that the letter sent to bring back Hasina has not yet received a response. However, the situation is different now. Now the punishment has been imposed. We also have an agreement with them (India). We will officially write a letter to bring him back.
Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal fled to India after being ousted from power in a student uprising in July last year. A case was filed against them in July on charges of crimes against humanity. Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal were sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal on November 17.
