Local residents witnessed a tragic incident while exercising their right to vote in the Kazir Deuri area of Chattogram city. On Thursday (February 12), 55-year-old Manu Mia left his house to fulfill his democratic duty before dawn. But in the inexorable decree of fate, despite arriving at the polling station, he was unable to vote for his preferred candidate. He suddenly collapsed and died while standing in line at the Kazir Deuri Boys High School center at around 7:35 am.
Manu Mia was a security guard at a local shop by profession. He lived with his two sons and two daughters in a small rented house in Madhuban Street next to Battery Street. Like every day, he left his family members at the center and stood in the 23rd serial number of the line. Eyewitnesses said that while waiting in line, he suddenly felt sick and collapsed on the ground in an instant. With the help of the people present and the center's presiding officer, Faruk Ahmed, he was quickly rescued and taken to the city's National Hospital. However, the doctors of the hospital's emergency department declared him dead after examination.
Monu Mia's sudden death has brought grief to his family. His eldest son Md. Shakil confirmed the news of his father's death and said that his father had left home in the morning to vote in good health. But they came to know that he fell ill due to physical complications while standing in line. He passed away after all the efforts of the doctors failed. After the subsequent formalities, his burial was completed at the Kazi Deuri No. 1 Goli Graveyard at around 12:30 pm.
