Home Affairs Advisor Alam Chowdhury announced on Tuesday that security forces have been granted unprecedented authority to ensure a peaceful 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum.
Speaking to the media after a law and order coordination meeting at the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner's office, the Advisor confirmed that, for the first time, members of the armed forces are authorized to enter polling stations to maintain order.
The meeting, presided over by Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, included top officials from the Army, BGB, RAB, Police, and the Election Commission representing the five districts of Greater Faridpur.
“The law and order situation is currently stable,” Chowdhury stated. “We have deployed more security personnel for this election than at any other time in our history. Anyone attempting to obstruct the process will face strict legal action.”
Addressing concerns regarding voter identification, the Advisor referenced Election Commission (EC) guidelines. He noted that female Ansar members will be stationed at every booth to assist with identification protocols if needed, ensuring both security and respect for religious or personal attire like the burqa.
The high-level briefing was attended by Lt. Gen. Abdul Hafiz (Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor), the Inspector General of Police, and Directors General of the BGB, RAB, Ansar, and Coast Guard.
