Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has urged the nation to cast a "Yes" vote in the upcoming referendum and support the 11-party alliance in the national election to build a "New Bangladesh."
In a televised address on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on Monday evening, the Jamaat chief stated that the February 12 polls are a historic opportunity to provide a permanent constitutional foundation for state reforms.
Focus on Constitutional Stability Dr. Shafiqur explained that while the post-July uprising government initiated structural reforms, many remain incomplete. The Referendum: He noted that the concurrent referendum is designed to make these reforms permanent. Governance: He pledged that a Jamaat-led government would treat state responsibility as a "trust," focusing on justice and transparency.
The Ameer outlined a comprehensive vision for the party's governance: Anti-Corruption: He vowed to end the "system of plunder" used by previous regimes and highlighted that past Jamaat representatives have a clean record. Women’s Rights: He promised equal respect, safety, and leadership opportunities for women in both public and state life. Minority Protection: Stressing that Bangladesh belongs to all citizens, he vowed to resist any religious persecution. Foreign Policy: Plans include a policy of mutual respect, addressing climate change, and ensuring the safe repatriation of Rohingya refugees.
Economic and Social Inclusion The party's election manifesto, according to Dr. Shafiqur, was developed through policy summits involving local and international experts. He also emphasized the importance of state recognition and parliamentary representation for expatriate Bangladeshis.
