A team of Japanese hydrography and oceanography experts has arrived at Chattogram Port for a five-day official visit. The delegation is conducting on-site inspections to assist in the port’s ongoing development and modernization efforts.
Upon their arrival Wednesday, the delegation met with Rear Admiral S.M. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA). The Chairman emphasized the strong bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Japan and expressed his commitment to deepening this partnership.
During the meeting, Rear Admiral Moniruzzaman requested Japanese technical support for maintaining and expanding the port’s critical shipping channels. Enhancing water-depth mapping and survey activities. Scaling the channel to accommodate larger vessels and increasing operational capacity.
The Chairman also briefed the delegation on the port’s recent performance, including record cargo handling, reduced ship turnaround times, and the transition to a fully digital security and operational system.
The Japanese delegation expressed satisfaction with the port’s progress and pledged continued cooperation. Following a formal presentation on future expansion plans, the team toured operational areas to observe the port’s efficiency firsthand.
The collaboration comes as the Chattogram Port Authority aims to solidify its role as a regional economic hub. By leveraging Japanese expertise to modernize infrastructure and maintain channel depths, the port expects to significantly boost Bangladesh’s export-import competitiveness.
