The Chattogram Metropolitan BNP has issued a warning that no plans detrimental to the country's interests concerning Chattogram Port will be allowed to proceed.
In a joint statement released to the media on Sunday (December 7), Chattogram Metropolitan BNP convener Ershad Ullah and member secretary Nazimur Rahman made this warning.
They stated that the country is currently facing a significant crisis. During this period of democratic transition and economic challenges, a malicious group is involved in serious plots concerning the country's vital asset, Chattogram Port. Specifically, the attempt to transfer the profitable NCT facility to a foreign operator is not in the nation's interest. The current interim government should not carry out plans that were initiated by the previous autocratic regime.
The statement further noted that since the government fell on August 5 last year, various political parties, labor groups, and professional organizations have been protesting against the privatization of port facilities. However, there are ongoing attempts to unlawfully suppress these protests. The Metropolitan BNP also condemned the 'fascist-style' actions taken against labor leaders, including those from the Chattogram Port Nationalist Workers' Party (former CBA). If the port authorities do not cease their dictatorial and irregular practices, we will have no choice but to initiate a strong and larger movement for the benefit of the people, workers, and employees.
