The local Hindu community celebrated the traditional Rath Yatra of Sri Sri Jagannath Dev with vibrant festivities in Porsha, Naogaon on Thursday.
The colorful procession began at the Nitpur Radha Govinda Temple in the afternoon, winding through local roads before returning to the temple premises. The event coincides with the second day of Shukla Paksha in the Bengali month of Ashadh.
Festivities kicked off Thursday morning with special prayers, Gita recitations, Harinama Sankirtan, and a puja dedicated to global peace and prosperity. Later, amid the traditional sounds of conch shells, dhak-dhol (drums), and kansar, the idols of Jagannath Dev, Balaram, and Subhadra Devi were seated on a beautifully decorated chariot.
Following religious tradition, hundreds of devotees gathered to pull the chariot's ropes—a sacred act believed to bring spiritual merit—symbolizing the journey of Lord Jagannath to his aunt’s house.
Temple Committee President Nitai Chandra Rishi and General Secretary Gaur Chandra Rishi inaugurated the procession alongside other local community leaders. During the opening remarks, they highlighted Bengal's long-standing tradition of communal harmony and prayed for the nation's continued peace and progress.
