A mobile court has fined a food factory in Laxmipur Tk.1 lakh for producing adulterated 'Shaan Papri' in a highly unhygienic environment and operating without valid licenses or registration.

The joint drive, conducted by the Sadar Upazila Administration and the Bangladesh Safe Food Authority (BSFA), targeted a factory named 'Jamal Shaan Papri' in the Lamchhari area of Laxmipur Municipality on Thursday.

During the raid, officials discovered the factory was using sodium cyclamate, a strictly banned artificial sweetener, to manufacture the popular sweet. The business was also actively deceiving consumers by printing "Dhaka, Bangladesh" as its manufacturing address on the packaging, despite operating locally in Laxmipur. Furthermore, authorities found fraudulent labels featuring advance production dates to illegally extend the product's shelf life.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kathoypru Marma led the mobile court and penalized the factory owner, Jamal Hossain under the Safe Food Act of 2013.

The operation was coordinated by Laxmipur Food Safety Officer Sumadhu Chakraborty with assistance from Food Safety Inspectors Mohammad Abdullah Hill Hakim, Mohammad Tajul Islam and members of the Ansar battalion.

Following the drive, officials reiterated their commitment to protecting public health. They warned that strict legal actions and regular monitoring against the production and marketing of hazardous, adulterated and substandard food items will continue across the district.
