The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur to construct a 14-story residential building aimed at resolving the housing crisis for UGC and DUET employees.
The agreement was signed at the UGC office in Agargaon. Under the MoU, DUET’s Consultancy Research and Testing Services (CRTS) will prepare the Project Concept Paper, Detailed Project Proposal (DPP) and the architectural and structural designs within the next six months.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized that providing housing facilities for staff remains a top priority. He stated that the project aims to make the building habitable within the next two years. "The design and proposal must be completed accurately and quickly to ensure there are no construction delays," Dr. Ahmed remarked.
DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Engineer Mohammad Iqbal expressed gratitude for UGC's trust, noting that DUET's skilled engineers and architects are fully equipped to deliver the technical support. The building will be constructed using the Government-to-Government (G2G) method and will incorporate eco-friendly technology, energy-efficient designs and modern architecture.
Following the ceremony, VC Dr. Iqbal presented a crest of honor to the UGC Chairman and sought continued support for DUET’s research, innovation and infrastructure, which the UGC Chairman assured.
